Sleigh bells rang and our community listened. With the generous support of local businesses, organizations and individuals, more than 900 seniors received gifts from our “Santa for Seniors” holiday gift drive. Senior Resource Association and Sunrise Rotary of Vero Beach joined forces to ensure that isolated and homebound seniors were not forgotten and alone at Christmas. Most of us now know what it feels like to be isolated and separated from our loved ones. But for seniors who are alone and homebound year-round, these holiday gifts brought tremendous joy for them. Volunteers and SRA staff delivered the gifts to seniors throughout Indian River County during the week before Christmas.

Now in its seventh year, Santa for Seniors relies on the generous support of local volunteers, businesses, other non-profit organizations, and local retailers. White Glove Moving and Storage gift donation boxes were placed at more than 30 different drop-off locations throughout Indian River County. Despite the challenging year for everyone, more individuals and community partners stepped up to support the 2020 gift drive than in years past. The need had nearly doubled since last year because SRA’s clients had increased by 77% since the onset of the pandemic.

This year’s goal had increased to 655 gifts, yet 900 gifts were ultimately donated and collected! As a result, we not only delivered to our senior clients, we were also able to share additional gifts with the local Alzheimers Parkinson’s Association and Visiting Nurse Association. Since the program’s creation in 2014, Santa for Seniors has delivered more than 4,000 gifts to isolated and homebound seniors in need.
