Celebrating Statewide Recognition for Indian River Transit

Indian River Transit was honored with two prestigious awards at the 2025 Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) Annual Awards—recognition that reflects the dedication, excellence, and heart behind our transit services.

Outstanding System of the Year – GoLine Public Transit

We received the 2025 Outstanding System of the Year award for GoLine, recognizing our system’s exceptional efficiency and effectiveness. Over the past three years, GoLine ridership has not only rebounded but also surpassed pre-COVID benchmarks, with a 19% increase over last year and the highest ridership levels in our history. Serving a county of 169,000 residents, GoLine provides more than 1.35 million passenger trips annually.

Operator of the Year – Rosemary Millar

We are equally proud to announce that Rosemary Millar, one of our Community Coach paratransit drivers, was named Operator of the Year for the State of Florida. With 29 years of service and over 1.2 million miles driven, Rosemary exemplifies professionalism, compassion, and safety. Her spotless driving record, extensive training, and unwavering dedication make her a role model within our organization and a beloved presence among our riders. Rosemary’s impact goes far beyond the wheel. She greets every passenger with warmth, builds genuine relationships, and consistently goes above and beyond. Her integrity, empathy, and leadership embody the values we hold dear.

These honors are a testament to the incredible work of our transit team and the vital role public transportation plays in our community.

Meals on Wheels meals getting loaded into a car

Volunteer Delivers Decades of Compassionate Service

For nearly 21 years, Pat has been a guiding light in Sebastian, delivering meals and kindness through our Meals on Wheels program. Pat began her journey in June 2004 with just two routes in Sebastian and 17 stops on her list. Diligent and committed, she even practiced her route the weekend before officially starting to ensure she was ready to serve her community.

“Many times, we are the only people [the seniors] see,” Pat shared, reflecting on her years of service. “I don’t just deliver a meal. I spend time with them.” Over the years, this personal connection has become her hallmark.

Yet, her role goes far beyond meal delivery. On three separate occasions, Pat has been a true lifeline for seniors who needed emergency assistance.

One story, in particular, stands out. A senior in a wheelchair fell shortly after receiving her meal and remained on the floor for 24 hours until Pat brought her meal the next day. Help arrived thanks to Pat’s intuition and swift action.

Her dedication to the community goes beyond mere words. The incident with the wheelchair-bound senior is just one example of how Meals on Wheels—and its devoted volunteers like Pat—truly save lives.

“When people see the Meals on Wheels magnet on my car and stop to thank me, it really warms my heart,” Pat remarked.

She has remained steadfast on the same Sebastian route for eight years, building meaningful relationships along the way. “Everyone is so appreciative,” she reflected. “I just feel like I am able to help people in the community.”

Her selflessness is a testament to the impact volunteers make, not only by delivering meals but by offering companionship, reassurance, and sometimes a lifeline in moments of crisis.

“I’m just dedicated, and I enjoy what I do,” Pat concluded, her smile reflecting the joy she finds in giving back.
