March for Meals commemorates a historic day in March 1972: the birth of Meals on Wheels. When President Nixon signed a law amending the Older Americans Act of 1965, a new national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older was created…and the rest is history.
Meals on Wheels is one of Senior Resource Association’s flagship programs, initiated in our inaugural year. Since 1974, our home-delivery program has grown to serve nearly 500 hot meals each weekday, along with frozen meals for the weekend.
March for Meals highlights the impact of home‑delivered meals and wellness checks for older friends and neighbors across Indian River County. The campaign raises awareness of the Meals on Wheels mission and the essential role volunteers and donors play in helping seniors remain safe, nourished, and connected.
Each delivery is more than a meal — it’s a moment of care that helps SRA identify additional support for those who need it most.
